Whereas homeschooling is on the rise world-wide, it’s far from being the norm when it comes to children’s education. That’s why homeschooling families fit the out-of-the-box family community. But more than just choosing a different way to educate their children, homeschooling families fit into the out-of-the-box family community because there are so many ways to homeschool, and we all believe each family is choosing what suits them best, and learning along the way.
Some of us homeschool with set curricula; some of us unschool, letting children learn by living in the world and following their interests; some of us roadschool, road-tripping our way to learning experiences, and still others world school, travelling the world by bicycle, boat, bus, or plane, opening our children’s eyes to the fact that learning never stops – we just have to open our eyes, look around, and nurture our curiosity.
We are educating our children in the way we feel is best for our families, sometimes in the face of much criticism and lack of support. But we’re living life on our terms, because we know that doing what’s best for our families is better than keeping up with the status quo.
In this section, I’ll share my journey homeschooling my three children. I’ll also occasionally feature homeschooling, unschooling, road schooling and world schooling families, who will hopefully inspire you to embrace your out-of-the-box views, and maybe even have some great tips to help you in your homeschooling journey. I’ll also share some of my own experiences homeschooling my kids.
We all have different reasons for choosing an out-of-the-box education for our children, but we are all doing it because we love our kids and want the best for them. Join us as we grow and learn together. Sign up for the mailing list to be the first to hear when new posts are added.
